My roommates and I were watching this on tv last night. The americans at the restaurant (on tv) and myself, felt so embarassed at how we were represented as americans, by "Bonnie and Bob." http://abcnews.go.com/WhatWouldYouDo/story?id=6556024&page=1
Fortunately, Bonnie and Bob were only actors. However, as I watched the show and felt the unfairness of being represented that way, it also made me think about who we as christians represent. We're supposed to represent Jesus Christ and I wonder how our words and actions have made Him feel.
I was having a conversation with one of my roommates on how there are times, certain things, actions or behaviors that a christian would refrain from because they are christian. I was really talking about conviction and internal transformation through the Holy Spirit. But my roommate responded, "What? Most americans are probably christian. Are you saying they don't w, x, y, and z?" I realized how silly I just sounded. Yes, many americans are indeed christian and very often our lives do not look any different from a nonchristian's. And, our lives may look worse sometimes because of immorality, self-centeredness, and sin. So, is religion just broken down or separated by ethnicity, culture, country, and choice, with christianity being one of the choices to choose from?
How does authentic christianity, a relationship with Christ step up and shine in the world? How do we clear the name of Christ and faithfully represent Him for who He really is?
